People who have to spend extended hours behind the wheel, are often being effected by drowsy driving. The major concern is for regular motorists and professional truck drivers. Provigil can certainly can keep them awake for a long period of time. This medicine is even used in the military to help pilots stay alert and sharp.
Falling asleep behind the wheel is one of the major causes for accidents. Although Provigil is not a panacea, it is for sure better than driving drowsy or speeding.
Provigil has been used for the treatment of post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment ( off-label). it is also known as a “chemo-brain”.
A number of studies have confirmed that Provigil helps reduce the problems with memory and attention, so scientists were hoping that Provigil might help breast cancer patients, who experience chemo-brain. In another study done on 68 patients it has been proven, that Provigil can help with memory problems in cancer patients.
Provigil has been added to the Prohibited List of the World anti-doping agency in 2004, as a stimulant.
It has received some negative publicity, after a few athletes were discovered using Provigil for enhancing the performance. It is still not know how widespread it is.
There has been no studies done to check what effect Provigil has on physical performance of a person, so due to similarity an action to amphetamine, it’s been added to a prohibited list.
In the United States Provigil is only approved for the treatment of Narcolepsy, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Shift Work Sleep Disorder by the Food and Drug administration.
In some other countries Provigil has also been approved for idiopathic hypersomnia ( excessive sleepiness which is caused by unknown reasons). This medicine starts to work in a day or two after taking.
